Ms. Abernathy has over 12 years of real estate development and land conservation experience. She has protected $52 million of land and raised $45 million for land conservation transactions. She founded Unique Places LLC to protect natural and cultural resources through conservation design and real estate development. She also serves as an advisor to Greenfire Development, a development company that revitalizes inner-city properties in Durham, NC.

Ms. Abernathy holds a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.S. in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management from N.C. State University. She has served on the boards of Durham Central Park and Preservation Durham and now sits on the Land Committee for the Eno River Association, as well as the Program Committee for the Urban Land Institute.
